GriefShare is a 13-week seminar series for individuals who have experienced the death of a loved one.  It is designed to be a warm, caring environment to help guide you through the journey of grief. New people can join at any time during the session.

At Wallace Presbyterian Church, these grief recovery groups meet during the fall and again in the spring. We also offer a short seminar called Surviving the Holidays once each year.

COVID-19 UPDATE: Our weekly GriefShare meetings are not being held at the church at this time. GriefShare has made their video content available online and many churches are holding online-only sessions. We are not sure at this time when we will resume classes at Wallace. We encourage you to visit GriefShare.org to find a meeting that works for you.

Temporary Resources

Although we have suspended our GriefShare classes at Wallace during the pandemic, we recognize the difficulty you are experiencing and want to point you to some resources. Using the blue bar across the top of the GriefShare.org website, you can access a number of helpful sections:

Find a Group: Use this section to find churches that are hosting in-person or online meetings of the regular 13-week GriefShare support group, or the one-time Surviving the Holiday event, which is particularly helpful.

Healing: Here you can subscribe to “A Season of Grief,” a series of free daily email messages. There are several other resources available under this tab.

Holidays: In addition to another opportunity to find a Surviving the Holidays meeting, this tab includes links to several articles and short, helpful videos which are particularly useful if you can’t make it to an in person or online event.

MyGriefShare: This new feature provides access to helpful readings and LOTS of video interviews of varying lengths which you can watch on your own or use to supplement participation in a group.

If you want to discuss these options or your situation, contact the team leader for more information.

Each session has three distinct elements:

  • Video seminar with experts:

Each week your GriefShare group will watch a video seminar featuring top experts on grief and recovery subjects.

  • Support group discussion with focus:

After viewing the video, you and the other group members will spend time as a support group, discussing what was presented in that week’s video seminar and what is going on in your lives.

The leadership team for GriefShare consists of people who have a real concern for individuals experiencing the grief of loss. Most GriefShare leaders have experienced significant losses in their lives and are examples of the healing and restoration that can occur as an outgrowth of deep grief.

  • Personal study and reflection:

During the week you will have the opportunity to use your workbook for further personal study of the grieving process and to help sort out your emotions through journaling. Your group will spend time discussing questions and comments from the workbook study.
